The Duties of a club member include being an active participant in all three major components of our clubs activities:

 

Activity 1: Outreach

As a club with the goal of providing information to children in the Sacramento Area, it is important that we continue to reach out and present to as many children in our area as possible. This includes drafting emails, making phone calls, as well as going to meetings with school principals and teachers to explain what we do, why we are doing it and what important lessons we will be leaving with the children.

 

Activity 2: Curriculum Building

As a group of students at UC Davis who get to play teacher for the day, we need to understand how teachers prepare lessons for students each and every day. In order to accomplish this task, we will provide workshops for our club members on how to make comprehensive lesson plans that cater to all types of learners.

 

Activity 3: Presenting

To get the word out about dental care as well as nutrition, club members that have attained the status of presenter will go in pairs of two and will give 15-20 minute presentations to classrooms of elementary school children(K-6th grade). As a member of the club it is extremely important that you are passionate and comfortable with working with children. This club is not something you will just get to put on your resume. You have to earn the title as a presenter and club member. Overall, nobody is a perfect presenter the first time they try to give a speech. Even some of the best presenters say that it generally takes a few practice run throughs before attaining comfort in the the message they are trying to present. We as a club understand this notion, and provide workshops for our club members to make the new members more comfortable with public speaking and the messages we hope to spread to the children via the Sacramento Oral Health Academy Curriculum.
